Boston, MA

Owners Rich Doyle and Dan Kenary decided that if they couldn't buy the beer they wanted then they would have to brew it themselves - or start a brewery and hire someone who could brew it. So that's what they did. Rich and Dan teamed up with George Ligetti, hired a brewer, and in 1986 the Harpoon Brewery was incorporated.

Year Round

5.9%  India Pale Ale

A New England-style IPA finds harmony in the combination of hops, malt and yeast so that no single ingredient dominates the drinking experience. The blend of malt provides depth in body and color, and is balances by a pleasantly hoppy finish. As the definitive New England-style IPA, Harpoon IPA is a beautifully balanced beer. The citrus and pine of Cascade hops complement a sturdy malt backbone and the floral aromas of Harpoon's beloved yeast.

Leviathan Imperial IPA

10%  Imperial IPA

This Imperial IPA is brewed with loads of pale malt and just enough caramel malt to provide a sweet malt backbone to balance the hop intensity. The American hops of Chinook, Centennial, Simcoe and Amarillo create a complex hop flavor and lingering bitterness. Harpoon's proprietary yeast lends fruity esters, while dry-hopping at the rate of over one pound per barrel produces this beer's massive aroma.

Rich & Dan’s Rye IPA

6.9%  Rye IPA

This beer is brewed with hops, a variety of malts, our proprietary yeast and more hops. A lot more hops. Centennial and Chinook, and the dry hop addition of Falconer's Flight, add a multidimensional hop character. Furthermore, the combination of Pale, Rye, Caramel 60, Flaked Rye and Vienna yield a complex malt body that stands up to the spiciness of the rye and the pronounced hop flavor.

UFO Hefeweizen

4.8%  Hefeweizen

UFO Hefeweizen, an American wheat beer, pours a cloudy, golden color with a dense, frothy head. Because it is unfiltered, the yeast accounts for the cloudiness of the pour as well as a faint but clear citrus-like character. Serve UFO Hefeweizen with a wedge of lemon to complement its fruity, tart fragrance.

UFO Pale Ale

5.3%  Pale Ale

UFO Pale Ale is a twist on a traditional British Pale Ale. It pours a vibrant amber color with a medium malt body and an assertive hop character throughout. This beer is well balanced with grassy, flowery hop flavors and aromatics. Like the rest of our UFO beers, this Pale Ale is UnFiltered for a soft, full mouthfeel and a distinctive cloudy appearance.

UFO Raspberry

4.8%  Fruit Hefeweien

Natural raspberry flavors added to UFO Hefeweizen. Consistent with the Hefeweizen style, this beer is unfiltered and cloudy with a solid foamy head. UFO Raspberry has a distinctive, hazy rose color. The scent of fresh raspberries hits the nose immediately, along with subtle bready aroma from the wheat and yeast. The body is light and the unfiltered yeast provides a soft mouthfeel. The taste of the fruit compliments the beer nicely. There is a faint sweetness on the palate, which finishes cleanly in a semi-dry, tart finish.

UFO White

4.8%  Belgian White

Light, crisp, refreshing UFO White follows in the tradition of spiced wheat beers that have been brewed in Belgium for well over 300 years. Brewed with orange peel and corlander, UFO White is the perfect choice for a summer's barbecue, a night out with friends or anytime you're thirsting for something a little different. Like all UFO beers, this White is UnFiltered.

Celtic Red

Tap Handle

5.4%  Irish Red Ale - January to March

Ireland’s warm and inviting pub culture influenced our choice of this Irish Red Ale for our spring seasonal. In keeping with Irish brewing tradition, we have supplemented the sweetness of caramel malt with an Irish Ale malt, creating a deeper red appearance, a smoother, rounded flavor, and a beer that is hearty enough for January’s chill but balanced enough for a spring-like St. Patrick’s Day.

Summer Beer

Tap Handle

5.0%  Kölsch Ale - April to August

Summers here can be short, so we brew Harpoon Summer Beer to make the most of the sunny days and warm nights. Our take on the traditional German Kölsch style is a light and refreshing ale with a dry, crisp finish. It’s the perfect companion for all of your summertime adventures (along with sunscreen). Enjoy the Summer!

Tap Handle

5.5%  Märzen - August to October

The character and complexity of this Marzen-style beer comes from its blend of six different malts. This beer is full-bodied, smooth, and malty with medium hop bitterness. This legendary beer is brewed with festivals in mind. Prost!

Winter Warmer

Tap Handle

5.9%  American Spiced Ale - November to January

We have brewed our latest version of Harpoon's classic winter seasonal beer to be more malty and robust. The characteristic cinnamon and nutmeg come through in the aroma, but are subtle on the palate. This year's Winter Warmer is the ideal choice for the cold winter holidays.

Limited Edition

Grateful Harvest

Tap Handle

5.9%  Cranberry Ale

Brewed using locally-grown cranberries, this beer captures the spirit of a true New England Thanksgiving: the harvest celebration and the sharing of food amongst friends. Fermented with a traditional ale yeast that lets the cranberries provide the signature aroma, this beer is balanced by the "bready" notes of the Vienna and Munich malts.

Chocolate Stout

Tap Handle

5.9%  Stout

Harpoon Chocolate Stout is brewed with an abundance of chocolate malt and a touch of chocolate flavor. The sweetness of the malt is balanced by a light hop addition creating a rich, creamy ale. Perfect for a wintertimes gathering or a night by the fire.

Harpoon Imperial Pumpkin

Tap Handle

10.5%  Imperial Stout

Last fall, our brewers were improvising a new beer in our 10-barrel kettle; they threw in some fresh pumpkin puree, tossed in a bit of molasses, cinnamon and nutmeg, and some toasty malts - it was excellent. Half imperial stout, half pumpkin ale, with aromas of dried fruit, chocolate, and freshly baked pumpkin pie, this black full-bodied stout is ready to be enjoyed now or saved for a chilly fall evening.

Bronze King

Tap Handle

10%  Barleywine Ale

Every fall since we first brewed a barleywine ale, one version or another seems to find its way onto the taps in our employee tap room. When the long nights settle in, we look forward to this ceremonial tapping as a way to welcome the season in a way that is characteristically rich and complex. This year, we look forward to raising a glass (or goblet) to the Bronze King.
